Birmingham City have shortlisted Liam Rosenior as a potential managerial candidate, according to a report by Football Insider.

Birmingham City are preparing for life in League One next season following their relegation from the Championship. They will be aiming for an immediate promotion back from the third tier and have a big summer ahead of them on the transfer front.

Rosenior, 39, guided Hull City to a 7th place finish in this past campaign and they were three points short of the play-offs in the end. However, he was surprisingly sacked by the club’s hierarchy last week and will now be weighing up his next move in the game.

In this latest update regarding his future by Football Insider, Birmingham City are now considering a possible swoop for him. PlymouthLive claim he has also been sounded out for Plymouth Argyle’s vacancy in their dugout as they hunt for Steven Schumacher’s long-term replacement.

Who is this?

Rosenior likes his team to play out from the back and his Hull City side played some attractive football in this past term.

It would be a statement of intent by Birmingham City if they were able to persuade him to drop down a division. The future is still bright for the Blues and they might be able to tempt him with their project.

Rosenior spent his playing career as a right-back with the likes of Bristol City, Fulham, Hull City and Brighton and Hove Albion.

He then delved into the coaching world with the latter before landing the number two role at Derby County under Wayne Rooney.

The Londoner then became their number one on an interim basis in 2022 and won seven of his 12 games in charge before he was replaced by Paul Warne at Pride Park.

Hull City then swooped for him in November of the same year to replace Shota Arveladze and he helped them stay up in his first year.

Rosenior then had the Tigers pushing for promotion to the Premier League in his second but they fell short of the top six in the end.

What next?

Birmingham City could see the ex-right-back as the man to lead them forward.

Rosenior is still young, has a lot of potential and will have learned a lot from his recent spell at Hull City.

Plymouth Argyle are also seemingly in the frame so the Blues would need to see off competition from the league above if they were to lure him to the Midlands.
